I will deliver real results for the people of Calne Central.
I have lived in Calne for most of my life and have always been inspired by the ambition and drive of its residents, whether it's through the opening of thriving small businesses or the strong sense of community seen at events across the town. Calne continually demonstrates a spirit of aspiration. I look forward to outlining my priorities for Calne Central over the coming months.
The Conservative-led Wiltshire Council has invested millions into our highways including £10m to repair roads and fill potholes. Thanks to this, our roads have improved significantly. I will champion additional funding for road maintenance in Calne, to improve our connectivity and transport links. To tackle rising antisocial crime in Calne Central, I will work with local agencies, including the police and council, to raise awareness of the impact of crime. I will also push for more youth provisions. We must offer positive alternatives to crime, building on Wiltshire Council's success with initiatives like the Youth Council and sports activities.
Supporting our local economy
Our local economy thrives when people are drawn to our High Street. If elected as the Calne Central Councillor, I will commit myself to making sure our High Street remains both accessible and attractive. Calne is home to many growing small businesses, and I am eager to support their growth in our aspirational town. Whether through pushing for more funding opportunities or helping secure the right grants, I will work to ensure Calne remains a place of innovation and economic growth, where everyone can benefit. The Conservative-led Wiltshire Council has been strongly committed to supporting small businesses, evident through the previous support of the Vibrant Wiltshire vacant unit grants. When small businesses thrive, our community prospers.
Maintaining our green spaces
Calne Central is fortunate to be home to Castlefields, the largest public green space in Calne. These green spaces play a crucial role in enhancing the physical and mental wellbeing of residents. We must support the ongoing maintenance of Castlefields to ensure it remains a safe, welcoming space for all. From the cycle network to the outdoor gym, I will work tirelessly to secure the funding necessary for Castlefields to continue serving as a vital community hub. It is essential that this beautiful space remains a cornerstone of life in Calne for generations to come.
