LONG STANDING COUNCILLOR PASSES THE BATON TO NEW CANDIDATE AHEAD OF MAY'S ELECTIONS
Wiltshire Councillor Peter Hutton has announced his decision not to seek reelection in May's local elections after representing residents in Chippenham since 2009.
Cllr Hutton, who will remain as a councillor until May 2025, is urging local residents to give their support to Michael Owen, who will be standing for election for the Conservatives.
"It has been a privilege and an honour to represent the people of Chippenham for the past 16 years but I have decided now is the time to step aside to focus on my interests outside of the council," he said.
"I will continue to represent and support residents and hope to see many of you before I finish my term of office.
"The candidate for Cepen Park & Hunters Moon, Michael Owen, is an excellent choice to represent you on the council and I will be fully supporting him on the election trail and sharing my experience I have learned as a local councillor in this wonderful part of the world."
Deputy Chairman of Chippenham Conservative Association, thanked Cllr Hutton for his years of service.
"We want to extend our heartfelt gratitude for all of Peter's hard work, commitment and the genuine care he has shown for the people of Chippenham," he said.
"In his time as councillor, Peter has been an unwavering advocate for our community, always willing to listen, support, and work tirelessly for the greater good. His impact will be felt for years to come, and we are deeply grateful for all that he has given.
Thank you, Peter, for your outstanding dedication and we wish you the very best in your next chapter!"
Michael Owen, who will be the party's candidate for the division in May, said:
"Cllr Hutton leaves behind big shoes to fill and I am hugely grateful for the support he has been giving me as the candidate in the local elections.
"I hope residents will put their trust in me as they did with Peter and give me the opportunity to continue his hard work in representing them locally and in County Hall."
